Full Stack – evolved
Full stack is an over-used and misapplied term, but as web technologies evolve and become more deeply integrated with embedded software, such as the robotics used in agri-tech, RFID tagging in ecommerce and network protocols, such as blockchain, or artificial intelligence engines, so the potential scope of projects involving web technologies evolves.
What we mean by “full stack” is that we can competently and professionally handle any technology stack, even if we need to quickly educate ourselves or hire experts in a specialist area.
In practice web technology has become a hugely broad subject, and if you’re into one area of tech it’s pretty likely you’re into all areas, or at the very least you can enjoy geeking out on any and all tech subjects.
Groktor is seriously into Tech!
We each have our specialised areas of expertise but can also see how all the other parts of the system fit together and can help optimise across the board.
Current stack of choice for API services:
We find this a good choice for 99% of API’s today but also have a huge amount of experience with: C#.NET, Java, Rails, Django and more.
Native apps
We’re sticking with SWIFT for iOS and Kotlin for Android. Frameworks that offer cross-compiling to both just don’t deliver when you get past the “hello world” examples. You still have to know the individual platform SDK to really get to the nitty gritty. Unless you’re talking about games where Unity is often coming out on top.
Progressive web apps
We’re currently loving Vue.js and think it’s the most exciting in the area. Angular is losing the race and React has good support and a good network of developers, but, very poor conventions and a highly unpredictable trajectory with Facebook.
We’re also excited about Jamstack, having built “simple” websites using Nuxt.js, Vuetify and deploying with netlify.
For backend we also have laravel resources, a well supported and scalable backend solution that allows for the fast implementation of complex modern web applications.
CMS = WordPress
For corporate brochure websites and simple content sites there is only one game in town as far as we’re concerned. We may enjoy pouring scorn on it but WordPress is lightyears ahead in terms of the ease of use and level of functionality available to marketeers and content managers.
That said, we do WordPress right, sticking to a consistent multi-purpose theme where it makes sense and developing custom themes with custom post types and advanced custom fields where we’re looking for a more manageable and scalable content solution.
